Job title: Lecturer in Public Health Nutrition and Head of Research and Impact on the Sugar Workstream

Bio:

Kawther is a Lecturer in Public Health Nutrition and the Unit Lead for the Research and Action on Salt and Obesity Unit within the Centre for Public Health and Policy at Queen Mary University of London.

She has a BSc in Nutrition from King’s College London, a MSc in Food Policy from City University London and a PhD in Environmental & Preventive Medicine on reformulation and its effect on sugar content of food and drink products, population sugar intake and health outcomes.

Kawther has experience of working for the food industry (Unilever), non-governmental organisations (Sustain: the alliance for better food and farming, Children’s Food Campaign, Consumers International and Action on Salt and Sugar) and academia.

Kawther currently hold a prestigious National Institute for Health and Care Research Advanced Fellowship looking at the policies that led to food reformulation to reduce sugar in the top contributors to sugar intake in children in the UK. As part of the fellowship, Kawther is a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Food Policy at City University of London.
